Eamcet answer keys give students a rude shock
HYDERABAD: A day after the initial key of Eamcet-2008 was released, confusion reigned supreme. On Sunday, students discovered that Eamcet Committee officials had released two versions of the initial key. While the version released to the media had just answers, the one posted on www.apeamcet.org had a different set of answers. According to the version uploaded on the official website, the correct answer of question number 102 in physics section of the engineering stream is '2' whereas in the other version it is marked as '3'. Though the students remained confused throughout the day, officials dismissed it as a mere 'typo'. "It is a mere typing error and should be ignored. Students should ignore the mistake in the key posted on the website," Eamcet-2008 convener E Saibaba Reddy told TOI. Though the Eamcet officials dismissed it as one-off mistake, subject experts claim there are more mistakes in the initial key itself. According to them, 15 mistakes have crept into both papers -- engineering and medical -- in addition to the mistakes already put out by the authorities on Saturday. In the engineering stream, answers of five questions in the key are wrong, while in the medical stream eight have wrong answers, they said. As per the key, the answer of question number 158 in the physics section (engineering) is '1', however, experts claimed that there could be no answer to the question as the data is wrong. Likewise, in the medical stream, answers of five questions in the key are wrong in the physics part, whereas one answer is wrong in the botany part. "To questions which do not have the right choice, the authorities have marked one of the options as correct. For example, in question number 88 (medical stream) in the physics section, the key says that answer '2' is right, whereas none of the options is right," Narayana junior college physics lecturer P V R K Murthy told TOI. Such problems were found in answers to question number 104, where option '2' is marked as right where as both '2' and '4' are correct. When asked about the mistakes, the Eamcet convener said that suggestions from all stake-holders would be considered till May 18. "The suggestions will be considered and the final key will be released along with the results," Saibaba Reddy said. Eamcet-'08 results are likely to be released on May 22.
